Make Do & Mend
📅 Sunday August 16th, 10:00am – 4:00pm (including a 45-minute lunch break)
📍 151 Northdown Road, Margate
About the Workshop
Spend the day learning practical alteration and repair techniques while working through your own wardrobe.
Bring along 5–10 garments that need hemming, taking in or simple repairs, and I'll guide you through each project step by step. With a full day together, you'll have plenty of time to learn new techniques, ask questions, and complete several items.
🔹 Bring your own sewing machine (must be in good working order). If you don't have one, let me know—I can provide one for you.
🔹 All tools (scissors, rulers, etc.) will be provided for use during the workshop.
🔹 Thread and basic sewing supplies are included.
What You'll Learn
🧵 Hemming trousers, skirts and dresses
🪡 Simple alterations for a better fit
✨ Repairing seams and everyday clothing repairs
👖 Working with different fabrics and garment types
💡 Building the confidence to mend and alter your own clothes at home
Every workshop is tailored to the garments everyone brings, so you'll learn techniques that are directly relevant to real clothing. As each item takes a different amount of time, it's unlikely you'll complete every garment, so I recommend bringing a variety of alterations and repairs to work on throughout the day.
What to Bring
Bring 5–10 clean garments that need simple alterations or repairs.
Examples include:
- Trousers or jeans that need shortening
- Dresses or skirts that need hemming
- Tops that need taking in
- Split seams
- Small holes or loose stitching

We use the highest quality cowhide leather in all of our bags and accessories.
The plain cowhide leathers are medium weight and have a light pebbled texture. They are soft and flexible.
The patterned 'hair on' cowhides are medium weight and have the hair left on the hide. The reverse of these bags are usually plain black cowhide leather.
Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Leathers can be wiped with a damp cloth. For stubborn marks, use small amount of leather cleaner.
For suede, gently buff stain with suede brush or nail brush. Light coloured suedes stain very easily so extra care must be taken.
